Where does PoolBuilderIndex cover across the GTA?

PoolBuilderIndex maps a listing to a specific Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA city wherever the public record places it, so you compare companies that actually work your street rather than one somewhere across the region. A small number of businesses give Google no address we can place, and those read “Service area not recorded” rather than carry an area we guessed. Coverage spans 33 areas, from downtown Toronto and the boroughs of North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke out to cities like Mississauga, Vaughan and Markham. By listed-company count, the deepest coverage right now is in Toronto (162), Oakville (47), Burlington (47), Oshawa (24), Whitby (21). Each area hub ranks the local companies in every category by that same score, so you can shortlist in a couple of minutes. Open the area closest to your project to see exactly who serves it.

How does PoolBuilderIndex rank companies?

Every company carries one number out of 100, and it is what these lists are sorted by. 45 of it is reviews: the rating is blended with the dataset average of 4.6★ using a 10-review prior, so a 5.0 on 4 reviews cannot leapfrog a 4.8 on 300. 30of it is what the company says on its own website. Every pool company's site here was fetched and read, and where one states that it is licensed, insured or twenty years old, that sentence is recorded word for word. Nothing in it was checked with a registry, so the site says “says it is licensed” and never “licensed”. The last 25 is the record: whether the website answered, a phone number, photographs. No company can buy a higher position, and the method is identical for all 442 listings.

What should you ask a Toronto pool builder before signing?

6 questions

A pool is one of the largest things you will ever put in a backyard, and the contract is signed months before you see water. These are the questions that separate a solid quote from a risky one.

  • Are you quoting concrete, fibreglass or vinyl liner, and why that one for this yard? Compare what each build type costs
  • Who pulls the enclosure permit and who is responsible if the fence fails inspection?
  • What is excluded from this price: deck, fence, electrical, gas, restoring the yard afterwards? See the line items quotes leave out
  • How will the machine reach the backyard, and what gets removed or rebuilt to get it there?
  • What is the payment schedule, and what triggers each stage?
  • Which crews are yours and which are subcontracted, and who is on site daily?

How does PoolBuilderIndex rank pool companies?

PoolBuilderIndex ranks companies on a published score out of 100, built from three things: Google reviews adjusted for volume, so a 5.0 on 4 reviews cannot outrank a 4.8 on 300; sentences read off the company’s own website, each one quoted; and what this site holds on file. No business can pay to rank higher. The full formula is on our methodology page.

Is PoolBuilderIndex free for homeowners?

Yes. Browsing all 442 companies, reading cost guides and sending us a project is free for homeowners. Listing is free for pool companies too, so you never pay to compare and nobody pays us for your details, and no business can pay for a better position.

How do I actually get a quote?

There is a request form, and what you send through it reaches PoolBuilderIndex. Your details are not published on the site and are not sold. Everything else the site shows about a firm comes from public Google Maps records, and no company has paid for its place in any list.
