Who runs PoolBuilderIndex?

PoolBuilderIndex is compiled and maintained by The Pool Trade Desk, an independent editorial team. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any listed business, and no business can pay for a better position. The team builds the dataset from public Google Maps records, applies the ranking formula published on our methodology page, and reviews every dataset and price guide before it goes live. Page copy is AI-assisted and human-reviewed, which the methodology page sets out in full.

What does PoolBuilderIndex do?

Two things. First, it ranks pool companies across the Greater Toronto Areaon a published score out of 100, built from Google reviews adjusted for volume, what each company states on its own website and what we hold on file, so you compare real companies instead of ad placements. Second, it publishes each company's own contact details from that public record, so you can call the ones you shortlist without anything passing through us. We currently track 442 businesses in 8 categories, from new inground builds to weekly water care.

How does PoolBuilderIndex make money without selling rankings?

PoolBuilderIndex is free for homeowners and free for pool companies. Today the index earns nothing. If it ever does, revenue will come from clearly labelled promotion, kept separate from the rankings on purpose. No company can buy a higher position, ever. Keeping money and rankings apart is the whole point, because an index you cannot trust is worthless.

What are our editorial standards?

Four rules apply on every page. Rankings are never for sale, review data comes only from public Google Maps profiles, market pricing is always attributed to a named source, and anyone can request a correction. Those standards are what let us say these 442 listings are ranked on merit.

• No pay-to-rank

  Placement comes from a transparent, published formula. Any promoted slot is labelled and kept out of the ranking.

• Public review data

  Stars and review counts are lifted straight off Google Maps. Nobody here writes a review, buys one, or edits one, and there is no review form on this site to write one into.

• Named pricing sources

  Every pool price on this site names the Ontario installer, supplier or authority it was taken from. Follow the name and check the figure yourself.

• Open corrections

  Spot something wrong? Email corrections@poolbuilderindex.ca and we check the record, then fix or remove it.

How do I correct or remove a listing?

Listings are built from public records, so they can be wrong or out of date. The process is short and there is nothing to pay at any step.

1. 1. Email us

   Write to corrections@poolbuilderindex.ca with the business name, the page it appears on, and what is wrong. If you are asking for removal, say so plainly. No form, no account.

2. 2. We check the record

   We compare the claim against the public source and the company's own website. If the source has since changed, the record changes with it.

3. 3. We fix it or take it down

   Corrections are applied and removals are honoured. A removed business is excluded from future refreshes, not quietly re-added.

4. 4. We tell you what changed

   You get a reply confirming what was edited or removed. If we disagree with the request, we say why rather than ignore it.

What is in the dataset?

The August 2026 dataset holds 442 GTA pool businesses spread across 8 categories and 33 mapped areas. Between them the rated companies hold 4.6 stars, counted across 395 businesses with reviews and a middle figure of 40 reviews each; 48.9% sit at 4.8 or better. Every company is pinned to the Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA town it works out of, because a pool crew that will drive to Whitby is not the same as one that will drive to Milton.
